In the 16th and 17th centuries, at the time of the Mughals, Agra was the capital of India.
Construction of Agra Fort was originally started by Emperor Akbar in 1565, but his son, Jahangir, and grandson, ShahJahan, later made additions. It houses the Dewan-e-Khas and Dewan-e-Aam (Halls of Private and Public Audience) and its walls are a silent witness to the rise and fall of the Imperial Mughal Empire. The palaces and courtyards within the fort feature a variety of ingenious Islamic inspired devices (some decorative, some more practical) within the fabric of the buildings.

Early morning visit to the Taj Mahal.
The Taj Mahal, built in white marble by Emperor Shahjahan as a mausoleum for his queen Mumtaz Mahal, is a universal symbol of love. This magnificent monument is best enjoyed in the early morning hours.
Return to the hotel for breakfast at Bellevue, the multi-cuisine restaurant. After breakfast, drive for one hour to Fatehpur Sikri, a world heritage site and the ancient Mughal capital of India.
Completed in 1571 by the Mughal Emperor Akbar, who was known to be a very tolerant ruler, the buildings at Fatehpur Sikri blend both Islamic and Hindu elements in their architectural style. Experts argue that Fatehpur Sikri is the greatest accomplishment of Mughal architecture, surpassed only in reputation but not in its beauty by the Taj Mahal.
The cultural politics of the site remain to be written; perhaps the mammoth chess board, where human figures were used as chess pieces and moved at the emperor's will, provides a clue. Enjoy a picnic lunch on way back to The Oberoi Amarvilas. In the evening, experience a 3 hour Spa program ''Noor-e-Taj'' at the Oberoi Spa. Dinner at leisure.
